Ash Class nature explorers!

Ash Class had an exciting start to their term! Ellis brought in his 5 new chicks to visit the class.  He spoke knowledgeably about how to care for and handle them.  The children were fascinated and felt very lucky to be able to share this experience together.

This week, Ash class have been watching tadpoles develop into froglets and then frogs!  They have learnt all about the life cycle and changes that occur.

Willow Class Aquarium Trip

Willow class enjoyed a trip to Bristol Aquarium as part of their enquiry ‘What is the story of the sea?’.  It was a wonderful learning experience, which included a guided tour of the aquarium displays and meeting tropical fish, sharks and turtles. The children were very lucky to have the opportunity to feed the fish and to take part in a workshop where they learnt all about what they might find under the sea!  We were so proud of how well they represented our Trinity value of respect, with exceptional manners and behaviour.

Our Shining Stars this week are Max, Charlie, Ottie, Cecily, Abi and Tilly.

Max is Willow Class's Shining Star this week because he has been showing lots of interest in understanding the world during our science lessons.  Max was keen to share his knowledge of the season of spring before our spring walk and helped his friends hunt for signs of spring in our school grounds.  He was able to identify and discuss buds and blossom growing on trees, dafffodils in the woodland, and how the weather begins to change during spring.  Well done Max!

Charlie is Ash Class's Shining Star this week for his writing.  We are writing a changed story ending and he used the word mat for inspiration.  He included exciting word choices such as 'suddenly' and 'over the moon'.  Well done Charlie!

Ottie, Cecily and Abi are Oak Class's Shining Stars for great work in Georgraphy, earing a Stop Disasters Game Badge.  They completed the UNDRR Stop Disasters game and saved virtual lives like a pro from a Tsunami.  Well done girls!

Tilly is Beech Class's Shining Star this week because of the excellent effort and creativity she has shown in art this term.  She has worked really carefully on her collage, inspiried by Derek Gores, and has created a fantastic final piece.  Well done, Tilly!

Our shining starts this week are:  Josephine; Rose; Harry R and Arnie.

Josephine was chosen for her effort in drawing club English lessons this week.  She tried her best to draw wonderful character and setting pictures using her imagination.  She has been eager to "crack the codes" by adding common exception words to her writing, use finger spaces, and successfully added full stops to end her ideas.  Josephine you are becoming such a fantastic, imaginative writer!

Rose was chosen for persevering with her writing.  Although it can sometimes be challenging, she kept going and worked really hard.  Well done Rose!

Harry was chosen because of his focus and attention in Englsh when creating subordinate clauses.  Harry was able to identify and sort out co-ordinating conjunctions from subordinating conjuntions quickly and was able to start to use those subordinating conjunctions correctly in sentences.  Well done Harry, keep it up!

Arnie was chosen because of his creativity when experimenting with collage techniques in Art.  He has carefully combined different materials and textures to create a detailed insect design.  Well done, Arnie!

Well done to the year 5/6 girls who represented Trinity at KLB last Wednesday in the GFSA football tournament.  They all played really well as a team, winning ALL of their matches!  What a result!

Match report from Sophia – “Yesterday the Trinity girls football team went to KLB to play a tournament against 4 teams:  Hilsley; Bluecoat; Bluecoat Stripes and Kingswood.  The first 2 matches we played – scores were 2-1 and 4-0 to us!  The first match was difficult but luckily we had Katy, our very own Mary Earps, in goal, who made some great saves!  Tilly and Mia also defended brilliantly and I scored a hat-trick!

Match Report from Amelia:  The first match we played, Katy was our Captain, and she was brilliant!  The second match we played, I was Captain and I scored 2 goals!  The third match, Tilly was Captain and was excellent in defence.  In the last match, Jess was Captain, and a fantastic mid-fielder!  Out fabulous goal keeper Katy only let one slide in and then fully locked in!  She was amazing!  All our teamwork and effort resulted in 1st place!! YAY!

Stats: Melissa – 3 Sophia – 3  Amelia – 4 Poppy – 1   - Best shooter – Amelia

“Thank you Mr Manning for taking us – it was amazing!”

Black History Workshops

Last week, during Black History Month, we were lucky to welcome Akulah and Vanessa from the Sheeba Soul Ensemble to our school to learn more about ‘The Bridgwater Petition’ and African art and music.

Akulah held a whole school assembly teaching us about the community, colour and joy that is expressed through so many African Art forms.  We learnt that a community very near to here, in Bridgwater, found out about slavery and decided it was wrong and sent a petition to parliament.  It was the first of many more whose combined effort brought an end to the British involvement in the slave trade.  Akula discussed Unity and chose one child from each Year group 1-6 to reproduce some beautiful African Art.

We learnt that the root of Black Music is in using our bodies and voices.  We always carry our bodies and voices with us.  We sang a call and response song in the Mende language from Sierra Leone.  We created music with our voices and our bodies and we copied a routine from ‘The Percussion Show’.

We learnt that instruments would be made from things around them such as shells; seeds; trees; reeds and grasses and we looked at some of these amazing handmade instruments.   ASH class were excited to see a thumb piano as this instrument features in our class book next term!

They used all the instruments to make and band and Chester was the conductor!  We closed our eyes to listen to some beautiful Koras being played and reflected on how it made us feel and what it made us think of…

Lottie  “I was in bed snuggling with my dog”    Raina “I felt happy”

Ruby S “A squirrel running up a tree”               Harry “I was a ninja protecting a village”

Sienna “I was in an audience and people were playing the piano”

Isaac “I felt calm, I was on the beach looking for seaglass."

All of our ideas were made into a call and response song!  It was a wonderful morning that all the children enjoyed!

Ash Class Polar Workshop

On Tuesday 18th March, we welcomed Ash class parents and carers to take part in the Polar Shoe DT Workshop. The children had been busy designing a snow shoe that an explorer could wear on an expedition to Antarctica. They had to think about different ways they could join each part and material and how to fasten the shoe. There were some fantastic product designs brought to life and everyone worked really hard! Thank you to everyone who came in to help, it was really appreciated.
