In Key Stage 1, children will receive their spellings for the whole year.  By the end of the year, they need to be able to use these words correctly in their writing.  We recommend trying to learn a few a week.  We will assess progress against this list continually throughout the year.  Please note that there will not be weekly tests.

In Key Stage 2, children will receive their spellings for the whole term in advance. These will be organised into weekly lists and the test date stated for each list. Each list will correspond to spelling patterns taught in class that week.  Spelling tests will take place every Tuesday.  Children should be able to use these words in context.

Learning needs to happen in school and at home. Below is a ‘Spelling Menu’ of different strategies to learn spellings that you may find helpful.
